Detroit police believe alcohol may have been a factor in a fatal crash late Saturday night on the city's west side.

The crash took place at Greenfield and Puritan, south of McNichols,  after 10:05 p.m. and started with a disregarded red light.

A 35-year-old woman was driving a Chrysler Town & Country van southbound on Greenfield and allegedly ran a red light, broadsiding a blue Ford Escape traveling westbound on Puritan.

A passenger in the Escape, described as a woman in her 30s, died in the crash. The driver, a man in his 30s, was transported to a hospital and listed in critical condition.

Police arrested the driver of the Chrysler Town & Country.
