Pontiac man charged in fatal weekend crash in Detroit
A 29-year-old Pontiac man was charged Monday in connection with a fatal crash in Detroit early Saturday that claimed the life of a 34-year-old man and severely injured his passenger.
Jarod Najee Richardson was expected to be arraigned Monday in 36th District Court on charges of operating while intoxicated causing death, operating while intoxicated causing serious injury, reckless driving causing serious injury and operating while intoxicated.
According to the Wayne County Prosecutor’s Office, the victim was eastbound on West McNichols around 12:40 a.m. and was driving across the right lane when Richardson allegedly disregarded an unlit traffic light, failed to yield or stop and collided with the victim’s vehicle, causing both vehicles to leave the roadway.
The victim was taken to a nearby hospital and was pronounced dead at the hospital. His 27-year-old female passenger was treated for severe injuries.
