Detroit police are investigating two smash-in burglaries of businesses that took place just a half-hour and 4 miles apart Monday morning on the city’s east side.

The first took place at 4:27 a.m. on the 10200 block of Van Dyke said Officer Holly Lowe, a department spokeswoman. The area is north of Harper and east of Mt. Elliott.

Lowe said occupants of two dark SUVs smashed into the front door of a business, stole liquor, then fled northbound on Van Dyke. Four suspects partook in the incident. Police have video of four suspects and the video could be released some time Monday, Lowe said.

Around 4:57 a.m. on the 15200 block of Houston-Whittier, a three-man team smashed into a business using a blue GMC Yukon. The suspects tampered with an ATM machine and stole cigarettes.
