A gas station clerk on Detroit’s west side was charged Monday in connection with the fatal shooting of a customer.

Rami Ali Jaber, 26, allegedly shot a customer after he came from behind a protective area of the gas station, police said. The incident happened at 3:54 p.m. Sunday at the Citgo gas station on West McNichols near the Southfield Freeway.

The 34-year-old male victim approached the counter to buy something when a disturbance occurred between Jaber and the customer, police said. The clerk allegedly fired a handgun, striking the customer, whose name was not released. Jaber was arrested at the scene.

Jader of Dearborn Heights was charged with first-degree murder and felony firearm. He was expected to be arraigned Tuesday in 36th District Court.
