Detroit police are investigating a Thursday evening incident during which a man was shot in the buttocks, officials said.

The shooting happened at about 7:15 p.m. in the area of Ardmore and Pilgrim streets near Puritan and Hubbell avenues on the city's west side, they said.

The victim and a group of men where playing a game with dice when they were approached by an unknown suspect who began firing a gun at them, according to a preliminary investigation.

Police said one of the shots struck the victim. Authorities said they did not have any information on the man's condition as of Friday morning.

The suspect then fled in an unknown direction, officials said.
