A 2-month-old baby girl died Saturday morning after she and her mother fell asleep with one another and the child became unresponsive, police said.

The child's death took place on the 600 block of West Bethune, which is north of West Grand Boulevard and east of Rosa Parks.

The baby's mother, a 32-year-old woman, said she and her daughter fell asleep at 4 a.m., but that by 8 a.m. she was unresponsive.

After being transported to a hospital by medics, the baby was pronounced dead.

In March, a 10-day-old baby boy, Cadence Tuck, died at his home on the city's west side. Two months later, the Wayne County Medical Examiner ruled Tuck's death an accident, the result of overlay, or accidental death via smothering.
