Like Willy Wonka, Tim Hortons is sending customers on a hunt for gold.

The Canadian-based multinational fast food chain is celebrating National Doughnut Day with gold-covered Timbits, honey-dipped doughnut holes covered in edible 24-karat gold.

The first person to find the correct Tim Hortons location and ask for the "gold Timbits" on June 1 will win free doughnuts for a year.

Five participating Tim Hortons will feature the golden morsels in the areas of Metro Detroit as well as Buffalo, New York and Columbus, Ohio.

Customers can begin looking for the gold-dusted doughnuts at 6 a.m. June 1. The special Timbits are not for sale.

“Here at Tim Hortons we’re always looking for a way to treat our guests like gold,” Shawn Thompson, regional president said in a news release. “We’re excited to celebrate National Donut Day the Tim Hortons way by adding a touch of gold to our signature Timbits, a bite-size guest favorite that are perfect for sharing with friends and family.”

No purchase is necessary.
