A 3-year-old girl is recovering after being injured in a dog mauling Wednesday evening on Detroit's west side, police said.

The dog mauling took place about 6:10 p.m. on the 2400 block of West Euclid, said Dontae Freeman, a Detroit police spokesman. The area is south of Clairmont and west of Linwood.

The girl was walking on West Euclid with her grandparents when the dog, which is believed to be a pit bull, charged her and bit her on her head and right leg. After being transported to an area hospital, the girl was listed in stable condition.

The dog in question was turned over to animal control, Freeman said. There is no information on whether its owner, a 43-year-old woman, was cited or arrested.
