Detroit Police are investigating who shot and killed a man whose body was found in the middle of the street just after midnight Monday.

Police said the victim was found lying in the 9900 block of Freeland Street, near Fenkell and Schaefer. The man, according to police, had multiple gun shot wounds. One of those wounds was to the chest.

Medics pronounced the victim dead at the scene. The man's identity has not been established and he is currently considered a John Doe. He is described as 20-30 years old with a dark complexion and a slim build. The victim was wearing a black T-shirt and black jeans.

The circumstances surrounding the shooting of the victim are not known. Police are still investigating.
