A man, as yet unidentified, died early Thursday morning in a single-car crash on Detroit's west side, police said.

The fatal crash took place about 2:41 a.m. in the area of Evergreen and Westfield, said Dontae Freeman, a Detroit police spokesman. That's south of West Chicago.

The male victim, was driving a white Dodge Charger southbound on Evergreen when the vehicle hit a commercial dumpster, ejecting the driver. The vehicle also caught fire, forcing two passengers to flee.

The driver died at the scene, but the passengers suffered only minor injuries.
