A 27-year-old man was shot in his ankle Sunday night on Detroit's west side, and was transported to the hospital by a woman who saw the shooting.

The shooting happened about 6 p.m. at West McNichols and Meyers, said Dontae Freeman, a Detroit Police Department spokesman.

The victim was waiting outside of a store when a man approached from behind. At the same time, a 21-year-old woman was leaving the store, in time to see the suspect shoot the victim in the ankle.

The woman then loaded the victim into her vehicle and drove him to a hospital, where he was listed in stable condition.

Late Saturday night, another good Samaritan's choice to give someone a ride ended much more tragically.

A 25-year-old male motorist saw a man limping along on Detroit's west side, and offered him a ride to his destination, the 16000 block of Snowden. When they arrived, the passenger tried to rob the victim, and the two men fought. A second suspect then emerged and shot the man in his lower back.

The victim was privately conveyed to a hospital and listed in temporary serious condition.
