Detroit police are investigating a trio of fires that broke out Friday morning on the city's west side, officials said.

Police said the fires were at vacant homes and dumpsters in the West Grand River Avenue and West Chicago Road area. An officer on patrol reported at 3 a.m. the fires appeared to have been started simultaneously, according to police.

One of the fires, at a vacant house in the 5200 block of West Chicago, spread to an occupied home next door, officials said. No injuries were reported.

Police are searching for suspects.
