A 65-year-old Detroit woman was charged in the shooting death of her live-in boyfriend at their home late last year on the city's west side.

The fatal shooting took place on Dec. 23, 2017, at about 3:30 a.m. just one day after suspect Lanetta Murphy's 65th birthday.

Police say the suspect and her boyfriend, a 67-year-old man, had a "domestic situation" that morning. Police responded to a 911 call about a shooting or cutting in progress at the home on the 13500 block of Washburn, which is north of the Interstate 96 Service Drive and west of Wyoming.

They arrived to find that the boyfriend had been shot in his stomach. He ended up dying from his injuries. Police recovered a handgun from the scene.

Seven months later, the Wayne County Prosecutor's Office charged Murphy with firearms use while intoxicated, causing death, and felony firearm.

36th District Court and Wayne County Jail records show that Murphy was given a $500 bond at her arraignment Sunday and will have to wear a tether if she posts bond. As of Monday morning, she was still an inmate.

Murphy is due for a probable cause conference on June 15, and a preliminary exam on June 25, both before Third Circuit Court Judge Lydia Adams.
