A motorist on Detroit's east side struck a police car, injuring an officer before abandoning the vehicle late Tuesday, police said.

The crash took place about 11:30 p.m. at Nevada and Fenelon, which is north of East McNichols and east of Ryan.

The police car, driven by a female officer from the 11th precinct, was heading westbound on Nevada when a 2018 white Chevy Malibu was headed eastbound.

The Malibu tried to turn left onto northbound Fenelon and hit the police vehicle. The officer was transported to an area hospital by medics for injuries to her left arm. She was listed in stable condition Wednesday morning.

After the crash, the man driving the Malibu abandoned the car and fled on foot.

Police caught up to the suspect some time after the crash and arrested a 26-year-old man at a Marathon gas station at Savage and Van Dyke about three miles northeast of the crash site.
