Man, 27, killed in assault at west side home
A 27-year-old man is dead after suffering head trauma during an early Thursday morning assault at a home on Detroit's west side, police said.
The homicide took place about 5:33 a.m., on the 870 block of Gladstone, said Officer Holly Lowe, a Detroit police spokeswoman. That's south of Clairmount and east of the John C. Lodge Freeway.
Medics responded to a 911 call made because the victim was not breathing. They transported him to an area hospital where he was pronounced dead.
Police followed up to the home and detained a 33-year-old man, who had blood on his clothing and cuts on his hand and head, but refused to cooperate other than giving police his name and birth date.
The 33-year-old man was arrested and is at the Detroit Detention Center, pending possible charges, which would need to be issued by the Wayne County Prosecutor's Office.
The victim's death is at least the second homicide in a 10-hour period in Detroit. A man in his 20s was gunned down at a gas station on the 12000 block of West Chicago late Wednesday night, while charging his cell phone.
