Detroit police are investigating a nonfatal shooting of a man Friday who was struck by a bullet after answering the front door of his home, officials said.

Detroit police spokesman Dontae Freeman said the shooting happened at about 9:41 a.m. Friday in the 16900 block of Wormer near West Nichols and Telegraph roads on the city's west side.

The victim, 21, told police he heard a knock at the front door of his home. He also told them he opened the door and saw three men standing there, police said.

A shot was fired and he was struck by a bullet, according to authorities. The victim sustained a gunshot wound to the left-side of his backside, officials said. Police do not have an update on the man's condition.

The suspects then fled from the home in a dark-colored Dodge Charger or Challenger, Freeman said.

Police are searching for the three male suspects, one of whom had a handgun, and the suspects' vehicle.
