A 38-year-old man died on Detroit's west side late Sunday night after being shot while driving, and a second man, 23, suffered a head injury when the victim's pickup crashed into a tree after the shooting, police said.

The shooting took place about 10 a.m. on the 2500 block of West Philadelphia, police said. That's south of Clairmount and east of Linwood.

The victims were driving in a gray Dodge Ram when the 38-year-old man was shot in his body. After being hit, the Ram crashed into a tree, causing the head injury to the 23-year-old.

The man who was shot died at the scene. Medics transported the second victim to an area hospital, but no update on his condition was immediately available.

There is no suspect description as yet.
