Detroit police are probing a shooting that killed a 23-year-old man Tuesday on the city's west side.

A witness told investigators he heard gunfire about 3 p.m. outside a home in the 18600 block of Tracey. He found the victim on the ground with a gunshot wound to the chest.

Another witness also heard the shots and rushed to perform CPR on the man, police said in a statement.

The victim, who has not been identified, was pronounced dead.

Authorities did not yet have a description of the shooter.
