A 25-year-old female assistant manager at a Family Dollar store on Detroit's west side was punched in her face and forced to open a store safe after being attacked while trying to leave the store Wednesday night.

The armed robbery took place about 10:50 p.m. at the Family Dollar store on the 6400 block of West Warren, which is just west of Livernois. Police say a masked male suspect caught the woman outside and implied he was armed, forcing her back into the store.

There, he hit her twice in the face, ordered her to open the store safe, which she did, then stole an undisclosed amount of money before fleeing on foot.

Police brought a K-9 to the scene, but the dog was unable to establish a track on the suspect. Police describe the suspect as a black male, standing 5 feet 5 inches tall, medium build, wearing all-black clothing and a ski mask.
