Teen pulled from Detroit River on ventilator
A 17-year-old Highland Park boy who had to be pulled out of the Detroit River at Belle Isle Saturday night is now breathing with the help of a ventilator, Michigan State Police said Sunday.
State troopers responded to Belle Isle at 7:45 p.m. on a report that someone had gone underwater and never resurfaced. A state police helicopter and the Detroit Police Department's harbormaster were dispatched to the scene
By 8 p.m., authorities had pulled the teen from the water. Police believe the teen went under while playing with friends.
State Police, which handle police matters at Belle Isle, said the teen has "a good heartbeat and blood pressure," but is breathing through the ventilator, state police said Sunday.
