A 53-year-old female manager of a restaurant  on Grand River near Lahser was robbed at gunpoint and forced to open the business' cash register for a masked man late Sunday on Detroit's west side.

The armed robbery took place at 10:30 p.m. on the 22000 block of Grand River, police said. The suspect kicked in the glass in the restaurant's front door and gained entry.

At gunpoint, the suspect forced the victim to open the register and escaped with cash before fleeing northbound on Grand River on foot.

Police describe the suspect as a black male standing 5 feet 3 inches tall. He wore no shirt, but red and black shorts and a red and black mask, and was armed with a handgun he carried in a paper bag.
