A man riding a minibike was killed in a crash with a Dodge Charger late Wednesday on Detroit's west side, police said.

The crash took place just before 11 p.m. on Tireman near Stahelin, which is west of the Southfield Freeway.

When police arrived, they found the victim unresponsive, lying face up on the ground. Medics transported him to an area hospital where he was pronounced dead.

The man had been traveling eastbound on Tireman when struck by the gray, four-door model Charger.

After the crash, the driver of the Charger fled the scene on foot, leaving the vehicle behind. Police are looking for the driver.

The victim's age was not immediately available.

Per the Michigan Department of Transportation, some 419 people had been killed in car crashes in Michigan, as of Tuesday. That's down 76 from this time in 2017.
