Detroit police were searching for a suspect who fatally shot a driver Thursday night on the city's west side.

A 30-year-old man was driving north on Greenfield near Clarita about 9:20 p.m. when a black SUV pulled alongside his vehicle and someone inside "fired several shots, striking him in the head, neck, shoulder and arm," Officer Vanessa Burt said.

The driver's car continued until coming to a rest at an Exxon Mobil gas station near Margareta, about a block south, Burt said.

The man, whose name had not been released, was pronounced dead.

Investigators did not have a description of the suspect.

Anyone with information on the incident is asked to call the Detroit Police Department Homicide Unit at (313) 596-2260.
