A 12-month-old girl died after a fall at her home on Detroit's west side Friday night, police said.

The girl was identified Monday afternoon as Ca’mya Davis by the Wayne County medical examiner's office.

Around 10:25 p.m.  police went to a hospital and met the girl's family. The family home is on the 15000 block of Ferguson, south of Fenkell and east of the Southfield Freeway.

The girl's mother told police she had called friends to come to the house and babysit her daughter, but had left before the 28-year-old and 31-year-old women arrived.

Police believe Ca’mya fell through a hole on the ground level of the home into the basement where there was standing water. The baby was unsupervised at the time of the fall. She was rushed to the hospital, but died.

The cause of death was drowning, according to the medical examiner.
