The Detroit Police Department is investigating five shootings overnight Sunday and into Monday that injured six men.

Three of the five shootings took place on the city's east side with the other two on the west side.

The violence began with a double shooting on Gratiot, at about 11:45 p.m. Sunday.

Two men, both 20, were walking on Gratiot in the 9th precinct when a white Dodge Magnum pulled up and offered them a ride, said Dontae Freeman, a Detroit police spokesman. The area is on the city's east side.

The men accepted, but a time later both were shot: one in his leg, the other taking a graze wound to his arm. The man who was shot in his leg was in stable condition at last report. Circumstances behind the shooting are unclear, as is whether the men were shot from inside the vehicle or from outside of it.

Just after midnight, on the 2000 block of Oakman Boulevard, on the west side, a 63-year-old man thought he was hearing fireworks, but it was his door that was being kicked in.

Two men described as being short and both wearing all-black clothes entered. One was armed with a long gun and the other a handgun. At least one of the men opened fire, leaving the victim with a graze wound on the back of his arm.

An hour later, back on the east side, on the 8000 block of Grace — north of Harper, east of Gratiot — a 22-year-old man was shot in his ankle in a drive-by shooting. The victim told police that a small black car drove by and fired shots. His condition was not immediately available.

Early in the 3 a.m. hour, a 19-year-old male, in the area of West Seven Mile and the Southfield Freeway, heard gunfire and realized he'd been shot. He was left in temporary serious condition.

Just before 4 a.m., on the 5200 block of Marlborough, which is south of East Outer Drive and west of Alter Road, a 54-year-old man was shot in his mouth, rendering him unable, in the early aftermath, of telling police what had happened. He's in temporary serious condition.
