An 18-year-old man was wounded and had his car shot up during a confrontation early Thursday on Detroit's west side, police said.

The shooting took place about 2:40 a.m., and may have happened in the area of Plymouth and Evergreen, but that hasn't been established, said Officer Holly Lowe, a Detroit police spokeswoman.

The victim and a friend were confronted by someone who police believe knew the pair but for whom no description was offered. During the confrontation, the victim was shot once in his arm, and his Chevy Monte Carlo took five bullet holes.

Police reached the victim at an area hospital when he was being taken into surgery. No update on his condition was immediately available.
