Detroit police have arrested an 18-year-old man in the hit-and-run death last week of a 20-year-old man on Detroit's west side, the department announced Monday.

The crash took place on July 16 at 10:40 p.m. on West Seven Mile at Shiawassee, east of Telegraph.

The 20-year-old was crossing West Seven Mile to the south when he was hit by a white Kia Sorrento that was headed eastbound.

After the crash, the Kia never stopped, continuing eastbound on West Seven Mile, and driving through a Project Green Light location in the process, where it was caught on camera. It was that footage that helped lead to the arrest of the suspect, who police identified as Adonis Jackson.

Court records show that Jackson faces one count of failure to stop at the scene of an accident resulting in serious impairment or death. Jackson was arrested on the 19000 block of Avon, which is about 2.5 miles east of the crash site, in the same direction he was driving at the time of the crash. He faces up to 15 years in prison and a fine of up to $10,000.

Records identify Markis Fore as the victim of the crash. He was in critical condition initially, but died from his injuries.
