Detroit police are investigating a shooting and theft of a man's gold chain early Wednesday morning on the city's east side.

It was just after 1:10 a.m. when the victim, a 50-year-old man, was sitting in his gold Chevy Tahoe on the 9000 block of Hayes. That's north of Harper and east of Chalmers.

As the man sat, he was approached by three suspects, who exited a white Cadillac and announced a hold-up.

The suspects snatched a gold chain from the victim's neck and shot him in his temple.

But as they ran back to the Cadillac, they dropped the chain and fled. Police recovered it at the crime scene.

The victim, after being shot, was able to drive himself to the hospital and was listed in stable condition.

There was only a detailed description for one of the three suspects: a black male, with light skin and a gray shirt and blue jogging pants, carrying a handgun.
