Man, 63, shot by robber in southwest Detroit

Detroit — A 63-year-old man is in critical condition Saturday after being shot by a robber on the city's southwest side, police said.

The incident occurred at 8:21 a.m. Saturday in the 1800 block of Central Avenue, near Springwells Street, Detroit police said. 

The victim told police the suspect, who was armed with a handgun, approached him as he was standing in front of his home. The suspect forced the man back into his home and then demanded money. 

The suspect, who police have identfied, shot the victim and fled from the location in a black SUV.

The victim was hospitalized.
