Suspect arraigned in hit-and-run of minibike rider

Detroit — A 25-year-old man was charged Friday in connection with a fatal hit-and-run on Detroit's west side, police said.

Charles Dalton, 25, was arraigned Friday on charges of operating while his license was suspended and causing death, failing to stop at accident when at fault resulting death.  Dalton's bond was set at $50,000. 

The crash occurred July 4 at 10:50 p.m. on Tireman near Stahelin, west of the Southfield Freeway.

When police arrived, they found the 29-year-old victim unresponsive, lying face up on the ground. Medics transported him to an area hospital where he was pronounced dead.

Police said the victim was traveling north on Artesian on his minibike when he was allegedly struck and killed by Dalton, who was traveling east on Tireman in a gray Dodge Charger. 

After the crash, Dalton fled the scene on foot, leaving the vehicle behind. 

Dalton was taken into custody without incident on Thursday at 1 p.m. after he was located in the area of Telegraph and Glendale.
