Reward for tips in Detroit hit-and-run that left teen dead
Crime Stoppers of Michigan is offering a $2,500 reward for tips leading to a driver accused of fatally striking a 15-year-old boy in east Detroit last month.
Jerry Grasty Jr., his sister and cousin were leaving a gas station near East Seven Mile and Caldwell at about 10 p.m. July 21 when a silver vehicle, possibly a Chevrolet, stuck him, investigators said.
That driver fled before a Ford Focus also hit the teen, police reported. He was pronounced dead at a local hospital.
Grasty would have been attending Detroit's Osborn High School this fall.
"Although he was a severe asthmatic, with one working lung, he decided to start a business repairing bikes, cutting grass, and providing snow removal services when needed," Crime Stoppers officials said Friday.
