Two brothers escaped an armed robbery early Sunday on Detroit's west side by driving away, but flipped their Range Rover in the process, police said.

It was 4:30 a.m. on the 7000 block of Montrose — south of West Warren, west of Greenfield — when a 24-year-old man and his 23-year-old brother, were approached by a gun-toting man in a gray Buick Rendezvous who announced a holdup.

The gray Range Rover had California plates; the brothers were parked in front of their father's home.

The driver pushed the handgun away, but it went off inside the vehicle. The older brother drove off, but flipped the Range Roger while trying to make a U-turn.

Both brothers suffered minor injuries in the crash, but refused medical treatment.

Police describe the suspect as about 30 years-old, standing 6 feet 4 inches tall, and heavy set. He fled the scene.
