A 29-year-old Inkster man will face charges after allegedly driving away from the scene of a fatal crash after the Motor City Muscle Festival late Sunday night.

The crash took place about 10:10 p.m. at Jefferson and Griswold, in downtown Detroit, and killed Michael Cavanaugh, 22, of Taylor.

Cavanaugh was crossing Jefferson when the suspect, Brian Keith Garner Jr., allegedly ran a red light and hit him before fleeing the scene.

Medics transported Cavanaugh to an area hospital where he died.

The next day, Garner turned himself in at the Detroit Police Department's sixth precinct and was arrested.

Garner faces a charge of reckless driving causing death, and failure to stay at the scene of a crash when at fault causing death. He was scheduled to be arraigned Wednesday afternoon in Detroit's 36th District Court.
