Detroit — A bevy of gospel singers will give a concert to honor Aretha Franklin.

The tribute will be held at 6 p.m. Monday at Franklin's church, New Bethel Baptist Church in Detroit.

Among the singers expected to perform are Evelyn Turrentine-Agee, evangelist Dorothy Norwood, Laura Lee, Dorinda Clark-Cole, Minister Douglas Miller and evangelist Esther V. Smith.

They'll be backed up by choirs from New Bethel and Greater Burnette Baptist Church in Detroit.

The concert will be hosted by the Rev. Robert Smith Jr., pastor of New Bethel.

Franklin's late father, the Rev. C.L. Franklin, was the longtime pastor at New Bethel.

It's also the church where Franklin began her career, singing gospel music as a child. Franklin died Aug. 16 in Detroit at age 76.

The tribute, which is free, is scheduled from 6-9 p.m.

The church is located at 8430 Linwood St. in Detroit.

Fans and well-wishers pay their respects at viewings for Franklin from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Tuesday and Wednesday at the Charles H. Wright Museum of African American History at 315 E. Warren.
