Investigators hope surveillance video footage can identify a man and woman who reportedly bolted from a homicide scene early Friday.

Officers on patrol at 4:53 a.m. Thursday discovered the body of an unknown man lying near the corner of Warren and Evergreen, Detroit Police Officer Vanessa Burt said.

The victim, listed as a "John Doe" pending identification, is a black man between 35-40 years old, Burt said.

"He had been shot in the head," Burt said. "Officers found him when they came to the scene and saw him lying there."

Witnesses told detectives they spotted a black man and a white woman running from the scene.

"The investigators are checking surveillance cameras in the area to see what they might show," Burt said.

There are several businesses in the neighborhood, including gas stations, drug stores, a beauty supply shop and an appliance store.

The intersection of Warren and Evergreen has been the site of six assaults this year, according to Detroit Police crime data.
