Man arrested on drug charges on city's east side
A 27-year-old man was arrested last month for selling drugs at a gas station as part of the Project Greenlight's effort to curb crime on the city's east side, police officials said.
Deequan Starks, 27, was arrested on Aug. 27 in the 12800 block of East Seven Mile Road and charged with one count of controlled substance delivery and manufacture of marijuana. He was given a $5,000 personal bond and was scheduled for a probable cause hearing Friday.
Police were watching around 2:50 p.m. from a scout car near the gas station when they allegedly saw Starks sell narcotics out of a blue backpack. Police said he fled on foot on Seven Mile and was detained with an unknown amount of cash and six plastic bags containing marijuana, officials said.
The gas station is part of the Greenlight's public-private partnership to fight crime in certain neighborhoods.
