A Detroit-area woman has been sentenced to life in prison without parole for shooting and killing her ex-boyfriend last year at a gas station, officials said.

Menayetta Yeager, 28, was sentenced Thursday, according to the Wayne County Prosecutor's Office. A jury found her guilty of first-degree murder on Aug. 16, officials said.

A judge also sentenced her to serve two years consecutively for a felony firearm possession charge, the prosecutor's office said.

Police said Yeager shot and killed her ex-boyfriend, Jonte Maurice-Louis Brooks, at about 1:19 a.m. Aug. 27, 2017 at a gas station on Mack and east of Van Dyke.

Brooks was driving a minivan when Yeager fired shots at his vehicle. He was struck by multiple rounds and lost control of the vehicle before it crashed on Mack near Seneca.

Medics transported Brooks to Detroit Receiving Hospital, but he died on arrival, according to police.
