1 suspect dead, 1 injured, security guard shot at Detroit Family Dollar
A robbery suspect was fatally shot, another wounded and a security guard is in critical condition following a shootout Monday night at a Family Dollar on Detroit's west side, police said.
Two men entered the store near Schoolcraft and Ashton about 7:45 p.m. and demanded money from the cash register, said Sgt. Nicole Kirkwood, a spokeswoman for the Detroit Police Department.
The security guard confronted them and exchanged gunfire.
Authorities said Monday the guard and the one of the suspects were struck. The suspect, whom police did not identify, was pronounced dead. The 27-year-old guard was hospitalized in critical condition.
The second suspect had fled in a burgundy Nissan Sentra. On Tuesday, authorities said about an hour after the shooting, a 26-year-old believed to be the second suspect, turned up at an area hospital with a gunshot wound. He was in custody as the investigation continues.
