Police investigate death on Detroit's southwest side

Detroit police are investigating the death of a 21-year-old man on the city's southwest side, officials said.

The man died sometime around 7:20 a.m. in the 8400 block of Longworth Street near Vernor Highway and Lawndale Street, according to Detroit Police officer Dan Donakowski.

Detectives believe the victim was assaulted near the street before he collapsed at the bottom of a home's porch steps, officials said. The victim sustained severe injuries to his head, according to investigators.

Investigators are searching for suspects, Donakowski said.
