A man in his 20s is dead after being shot in one of his shoulders early Tuesday morning on Detroit's west side, police said.

The fatal shooting took place just before 1:50 a.m. on the 6200 block of Penrod. That's south of West Warren and west of the Southfield Freeway.

After being shot, in circumstances and by a person police have not yet described, the victim knocked on a door in the area, said he had been shot, took off his sweatshirt, then fell over.

Police and medics arrived and transported the victim to an area hospital, but he died.
