A 27-year-old man was shot in his head early Tuesday morning in a drive-by on Detroit's west side, but managed to drive himself to the hospital afterwards, police said.

The drive-by shooting took place about 2 a.m. on the 5600 block of Trumbull, said Officer Dan Donakowski, a Detroit Police Department spokesman. That's north of Interstate 94.

The victim was driving in a gray Chevy Malibu when a red vehicle approached him and fired shots, striking the victim in the head.

After being shot, the victim drove himself to an area hospital, where he's listed in critical condition.
