Metro Detroit forecast calls for rain, cooler temps

Rain and storms are expected to continue moving east across Metro Detroit and the region Thursday afternoon, according to the National Weather Service.

The agency's meteorologists also predict a marginal risk for severe thunderstorms for much of southeast Michigan as well as strong winds and possibly tornadoes.

Morning rains caused havoc with Detroit freeways.

The southbound Lodge Freeway ramp to the eastbound Davison Highway in Detroit was closed at about 10:30 a.m. due to flooding, officials with the Michigan Department of Transportation and Michigan State Police said.

It reopened at about 1:30 p.m., they said.

It addition, flooding closed the northbound Southfield Freeway at Joy Road in Detroit. It was shut down at about 11:30 a.m. and reopened at about 1 p.m., officials said.

Thursday's temperature is expected to reach a high of 83 degrees and a low of about 73 degrees. The average monthly temperature in Detroit for September is 74 degrees, according to the service.

The Metro area forecast calls for a chance of rain Friday, but it's expected to dry out over the weekend as colder temperatures move in, according to the agency.

Extended forecast

Friday: Mostly sunny with a high near 84 degrees and a low of about 53 degrees. There's a chance of showers after 2 p.m. and before 8 p.m.

Saturday: Mostly sunny with a high near 65 degrees and a low of about 51 degrees.

Sunday: Sunny with a high near 68 degrees and a low of about 55 degrees.

Monday: Sunny with a high near 71 degrees and a low of about 61 degrees. There's a chance of showers after 8 p.m.

Tuesday: Mostly cloudy with a high near 73 degrees and a low of about 59 degrees. There's also a chance of showers during the day and at night.

Wednesday: Partly sunny with a high near 68 degrees. There's also a chance of showers.
