A 17-year-old boy is in critical condition after being shot in his backside Thursday night on Detroit's northwest side, police said.

The shooting happened at about 11:45 p.m. in the 19300 block of Tracy Street near the John C. Lodge Freeway and West Seven Mile, officials said.

Dontae Freeman, a Detroit Police Department spokesman, said authorities continue to investigate the shooting.

Police are looking for two male suspects in connection with the shooting, he said.

Freeman said it appears the victim and at least one of the suspects know each other.

According to a preliminary investigation, the victim and one of the suspects were tussling over a handgun when the other suspect picked up the weapon and shot the victim, police said.

The suspects then fled the scene, Freeman said.
