A 26-year-old man is recovering after being shot in his back multiple times on Detroit's west side early Tuesday as he finished changing a tire.

The shooting happened about 4 a.m. in the area of West McNichols and Greenfield, said Dontae Freeman, a Detroit Police Department spokesman.

The victim was changing a tire to his Chevy Camaro when he was approached by two vehicles.

Someone from inside one of the vehicles, which police believe to be a Dodge Challenger, pulled out a gun and opened fire before both vehicles fled.

The victim drove himself to a nearby hospital, and was listed in temporary serious condition.
