A year after a 22-year-old man was slain on Detroit's west side, Crime Stoppers of Michigan is announcing a $2,500 reward for tips leading to an arrest.

Zachary "Scooter" Melton was at a cousin’s home on the 18000 block of Coyle about 12:02 a.m. Sept. 26, 2017, when two people entered and announced a robbery, the group said in a statement.

The suspects opened fire, wounding Melton and another person inside, before fleeing on foot toward Seven Mile, according to the release.

Melton, who attended Mumford High School and dreamed of becoming an a chemical engineer, was rushed to a hospital and pronounced dead.

Crime Stoppers held a press conference Thursday on the case and released composite sketches of the suspects.

If a tip leading to an arrest is received by midnight, the group plans to add another $1,000 to the reward, officials said.

Anyone with information on the incident can anonymously call 1-800-SPEAKUP or go to www.1800speakup.org.
