Detroit police are investigating the early Wednesday theft of four new vehicles from Fiat Chrysler's Jefferson North Assembly Plant.

Police said the incident at the plant, located on Jefferson Avenue and Conner Avenue, was reported at about 6:15 a.m.

A Dodge vehicle entered the gate and an unknown number of suspects stole a Jeep Cherokee and three Dodge Hellcats, according to investigators' preliminary information.

FCA spokeswoman Jodi Tinson said the thefts happened at a lot that's adjacent to the plant that's managed by a third party and not the automaker. She said the lot is a shipping yard for many vehicle brands in addition to FCA vehicles.

It's not the first time vehicles have been stolen from a lot at a FCA manufacturing plant this year.

In May, nine Ram pickup trucks were stolen from the company's Warren Truck Assembly plant on Mound Road at 9 Mile.
