Detroit — Police are asking for the public's help in finding a man accused of attempting to lure a 10-year-old boy into his Dodge Charger using a puppy as bait  on Saturday afternoon on west side.

The attempted abduction took place just after noon on the 24500 block of West McNichols, which is just west of Telegraph. Police say a gas station in the area captured footage of a white male trying to lure the victim, a 10-year-old boy, into his silver Dodge Charger using the puppy.

People in the area saw what was going on, though, and ordered the boy to go home. A man in his mid-30s followed him home to ensure his safe passage.

Police believe the suspect frequents the area, and may live in nearby Redford. They describe the suspect as a 6-foot-tall white man with a medium build. He wore black sunglasses, a green jacket and black pants, and had the black puppy in the front seat of the Charger.

The license plate on the Charger is DPQ 0493. Police obtained that using the footage from the gas station.

Officers spoke to the boy at his grandmother's home to make he was OK, but believe the suspect is still riding around in that area.
