Detroit — An unidentified black man was gunned down late Saturday night on a sidewalk in southwest Detroit, police said.

The man's body was discovered just after 11 p.m. on Leonard at Deacon, which is south of Interstate 75 and east of Fort Street.

Police responded to calls of shots fired and arrived to find the victim on the ground with a gunshot wound to his head. Medics pronounced him dead at the scene.

While no suspect description was offered, police say that an "improperly plated" 2013 gold Mercury Marquis with blood on the interior was found about a block away, at Bassett and Pleasant.

The Marquis hit a pole and brought down power lines in the area, police say.
