Detroit — Police are investigating two separate shootings Sunday night on the city's west side.

A 34-year-old man and a 29-year-old man got into an argument around 5:40 p.m. in the 16100 block of Linwood, just north of Puritan, police say.

The 29-year-old then pulled out what is described as a "small caliber" handgun and shot the victim in his left thigh, said Dontae Freeman, a spokesman for the Detroit Police Department.

The victim was listed in temporary serious condition after being transported to the hospital, Freeman said.

Police offered no description of the suspect, but described him as a "known" figure.

About 40 minutes earlier and five miles away on the 15900 block of West Seven Mile, a 33-year-old man was shot on his right side, Freeman said. He was listed in critical condition after a medic transport to the hospital.

He refused to discuss what happened with police. Officers recovered a gun in the area of the shooting, said Freeman.
