Detroit — A Detroit man is expected to be arraigned Saturday on allegations he choked his girlfriend and held a gun to her head during an altercation.

Issac “Ikey” Alexander, 45, was charged Friday with felonious assault, resisting and obstructing the police, felon in possession of a firearm, domestic violence and four counts of felony firearm, according to the Wayne County Prosecutor's office.

The incident occurred at 7:12 p.m. in the 5740 block of Rohns Street Wednesday when Alexander allegedly had a verbal argument that escalated into a physical altercation with his 34-year-old girlfriend, prosecutors said.

An off-duty police officer allegedly saw Alexander choke and slam the woman into the ground and place a handgun to her head.

The officer identified himself, displayed his badge, and he instructed Alexander to put the weapon down. Alexander allegedly failed to drop the weapon and "fearing for the safety of the woman and himself the officer fired his weapon and struck Alexander," according to prosecutor's office.

Alexander left the location in a car driven by his girlfriend that was then involved in a crash on Mack Avenue near Alter Road, where Alexander was recognized, arrested, and taken to the hospital for treatment for his wound, prosecutor's said.

He is expected to be arraigned after 11 a.m. on Saturday in 34th District Court in Romulus.
